Broken Glass and $6 Worth of Balsamic Vinegar

One thing that I forgot to mention in the last post was this little incident...

Carrying my groceries from the end of our driveway to the garage, one of the bags slipped out of my hand... and fell with a thump onto the hard cement. Other than the thump, there wasn't any other detectable sound, so I wasn't super worried about it.

I was in for a shock when I opened the bag to discover the bottom flooded with inky black liquid.

Not a single drop was left inside of the bottle. The bottom had completely shattered.

How unfortunate that the bag I accidently dropped had the glass bottle of balsamic vinegar in it.

The only item that could possibly have been broken.

Despite this, I was lucky in that the only other items in that bag were the cans of coconut milk and pumpkin puree. These were easily cleaned of the pungent dousing they had received with a rinse in the sink.

It was also lucky that my dad was planning to order groceries for that same evening (Friday). My dad is like my back-up in the case of something being unavailable in my order, or a last minute need of an ingredient. He will kindly add whatever it is to his order.

I was certainly bummed about dropping the bag, and all the waste, but I have come to deal with mishaps better. And (the most important thing was that) I was still able to make the balsamic reduction for the beet salad that night. Wouldn't have wanted to miss out on that salad.
