The Challenge:
Hows and Wherefores...

Since the Julie/Julia Project this challenge is inspired by, awareness of what goes into the food we eat, where it comes from, and how it impacts our health, has grown. With this knowledge, the plant-based diet has gained momentum.

After some thinking, I have opted out of going through pounds upon pounds of butter in Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Well, what cuisine could I master instead?

Vegan Cooking

There it was, staring at me directly in the face. Yes! This was what I would do. This would be my challenge. Fitting to the modern age.

Alas, there was no Julia Childs of Vegan Cooking to be found. My solution:

Cook From Three Vegan Cookbooks

If I want to master the whole vegan shibang, I had better know all the tricks in the book. Collectively, from all the advice, guidance, techniques, ingredients, and recipes across the three books, I would achieve Mastering the Art of Vegan Cooking! This was the hope.

The final three were chosen after a lot of vegan cookbook searching, comparison, and the nail-biting frustration of indecision (too many choices!).

Whether or not I have questioned my choices, the show must go on!

Timeline:

1 school year = approx. 9 months = 39 weeks = 273 days

Start date:

End date:

The completion of 273 days!

Cook:

Why 117 Recipes?

Based off my original guideline of cooking three recipes every week—one from each cookbook. 3 * 39 (# of weeks) = 117.

There are obviously much more than 117 recipes in the three books combined, thus I'll have to be choosy about what I make.

Blog:

I am blogging to document and share my journey, spread light, humor, cheer, and inspiration to eat good food for your body and the earth. I'll be writing a post following the recipes I make and including pictures!

The Contender:

One teenage girl, a freshman in high-school. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, she is stuck at home, depressed, annoyed out of her wits by her family members, with an abundance of time on her hands. A lover of good food, with a lack of purpose in life, she was in need of something productive to do. Inspired by the movie Julie and Julia, she found her challenge. Risking her sanity, sleep, friendships, parent and sibling relationships, softball aspirations, and school work, she has determined to master the art of vegan cooking.

273 days. 117 recipes. One teenager and a global pandemic.

How far will it go? We can only wait. And wait. And wait.....
